The  two riverfly workshops, hosted by the Tyne Rivers Trust in 2007 generated great enthusiasm.  Mulitple sets of equipment were purchased and monitoring commenced in September.  Acitiviy expanded in 2008 with two further workshops training a further 24 individuals in the monitoring.  

The initiative has been funded through the Tyne Rivers Trust River Watch programme made possible by grants from Northern Rock Foundation, Awards for All, Band Trust, PF Charitable Trust, William Leach Trust, Rothschild CT, Shears Foundation, D’Oyly Carte CT, Fishmongers CT, Idelwild CT, Rolland Cookson CT, Joicey CT, Peter Samuel CT, Hedley Denton CT, Millichope Foundation and many other donations
