Riverfly Partnership - official partner to Royal Entomological Society National Insect Week

The Riverfly Partnership is an official partner to the Royal Entomological Society's National Insect Week 2008. The event was launched by Chris Packham on Monday 23 June. One of the core themes is aquatic insects. See www.nationalinsectweek.co.uk/.
The Riverfly Partnership initiatives include:
Enter your riverfly photographs into the Riverfly Competition, with prizes for the best photographs of riverflies sponsored by the Riverfly Partnership and the Environment Agency. The competition runs between 23 June 2008 and 12 noon on Friday 31 October 2008. Media partner BBC Wildlife magazine. Click here for information on how to enter.

Dr Cyril Bennett, mayfly expert, photographer and fly-fisherman, founder member of the Riverfly Partnership; Peter Lapsley, fly-fisherman, well-known angling journalist, author and photographer; and Prof. Chris Haines, NIW Coordinator for the Royal Entomological Society will judge the entries with winners announced on Friday 5 December.

Join Entomologist Adrian Hine who will be discussing the use of riverflies as bioindicators of water quality citing the Riverfly Partnership Anglers Monitoring Initiative. Tours of the Natural History Museum riverfly collections will follow. The talk is open to the public but places on the tours are strictly limited and must be booked in advance. - Angler's Monitoring Initiative demonstration River Wandle – Thursday 26 June, 10.00hrs
A demonstration of the anglers monitoring initiative will be given on the River Wandle on the morning of Thursday 26 June, byWilliam Tall, Coordinator of the Wandle Piscators Monitoring Group to Royal Entomological Society President Professor Lin Field, championing the work of anglers and their monitoring of riverflies as bioindicators of the river water quality. - Caddis walk at Whixall, nr Whitchurch, Shropshire – Sunday 29 June, 13.00 – 16.00hrs
The walk, led by Dr Ian Wallace of Liverpool Museums, gives a chance to see one of the UK’s rarest and most beautiful caddisflies, Hagenella clathrata.
This large day-flying caddis is the flagship species for caddis conservation in England.

Conservation status for British riverflies Oct 07
The Riverfly Recording Scheme Coordinators, Craig Macadam , David Pryce and Ian Wallace have worked with Buglife - The Invertebrate Conservaton Trust to ensure that eight species of riverfy qualify for conservation status on the new Biodiversity Action Plan Species list. Inclusion on the list means that there is government committment to support conservation measures for these species. The riverfly species included are:
