Fish health, parasites and disease

This is an introductory course for people wanting to understand more about the parasites and diseases of freshwater fish and the conditions they cause. It will include general principles of parasitology, fish physiology and some preactical dissection and microscope work. Roger Sweeting has spent many years studying fish health and has a particular interst in fish parasitology.

This two day course will involve the collection and identification of aquatic inverebrates and will feature sampling methods, bankside sorting and lab-based identication. Identifying aquatic invertebrates with a specialist caddis and beetle day

The course will involve the collection and identification of aquatic invertebrates. The purpose of day one is to introduce freshwater invertebrates and how to sample, identify and record them. Day two will focus on the collection and identification of caddis larvae and freshwater beetles. Ian Wallace is the Natinal Coordinator for the Trichoptera Recording Scheme and Garth Foster is the National Coordinator for the Freshwater Coleoptera Recording Scheme. Both have considerable experience in collecting and recording freshwater species.
